Community development has always been a focus area for JNPT because it is important that the growth and development of the Port drive economic stability and prosperity among the community around the Port. Inclusive growth is very essential because it reflects on the overall growth and economic development of our country.
JNPT has been keenly involved in rebuilding the lives of PAPs and at the same time providing support for development to the nearby villages and townships through many social objective projects. Providing livelihood through employment is one way to achieve financial stability and scope for growth for the community and JNPT has been working closely with the government to address the ‘lack of skill’ among the employable population in the local community. As part of the Sagarmala project, The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and its stakeholders including the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is supporting this initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. They also launched, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra initiative which will be providing best-in-class skill development centres running industry-driven courses. JNPT Signed MoU with CIDCO and All Cargo Logistics for setting up a Multi-Skill Development Center in Bokadvira, Uran, near JNPT under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra to create a suitably skilled workforce and cater to the diverse requirement for the industry.
JNPT is also the first major port to start the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana at JNPT Hospital. This initiative will provide quality medicines to common masses at an affordable cost.
JNPT is committed to the development of the community around the Port and already has many social projects and youth development initiatives in the pipeline to drive the economic growth of the region.
The Industrial Relations situation in the Port is satisfactory. JNPT provides Pre-primary, Primary, and Secondary Education (English and Marathi medium) in the Port Township. The schools are managed by Indian Education Society, Mumbai on behalf of the Port. In addition, an English medium school run by St. Mary’s JNP High School is also operating in JNPT Township. To encourage intelligent wards of the Port employees the Port awards scholarship to 335 wards of the Port employees during the year under the scholarship scheme. The rate of scholarship ranges from Rs. 450/- and Rs. 1250/- up to the Jr. College level, Rs. 4000/- for a student who secures admission on merit in professional degree courses and Rs. 6000/- after completion of a professional degree course in the first attempt. The total amount of scholarship disbursed of Rs. 7,74,950/- in the year 2017-2018.
The Port grants financial assistance from the Welfare Fund to Officers Club, Staff Club and meets the cost of the insurance premium for Group Personnel Accident Insurance Scheme, Group Term Insurance, funeral expenses, scholarships along with the expenses for the celebration of festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Mohotsav, Shivajayanti, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Engineers Day, Avishkar JNPT Karmachari Panvel Rahivasi Sanghatana.
JNPT runs 4 canteens at various places in the Port i.e. Container Yard, Port Operation Center, Administration Building, and JNPT Hospital.
JNPT running 50 bedded hospitals in JNPT Township for JNPT employees and local villagers and in public in general.
JNPT Hospital undertakes the following health awareness program: Pulse Polio immunization – This program are conducted from time to time with the help of the State Health Authority and as per the guidelines of the National immunization program, achieving 100% immunization during every camp.
JNPT also provides BUS facilities for employees from Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Uran, and Pen.
